Over 65 years ago, two brothers returning home
from World War II moved to Houston seeking
employment. Hub and Winton Richards soon
pooled their savings and purchased Acme Safe
and Lock Service Company, a company whose
roots dated back to the 1890s.
What started as a small safe and door closer
repair shop quickly expanded, providing
locksmith services to both residential and
commercial customers. They decided to expand
their territory by calling on many of the schools
in south Texas and Louisiana. Fueled by a
strong work ethic and the desire to
succeed, Acme Safe and Lock quickly
grew into the largest lock and door
service company in Houston. Always
listening to their customers’ needs
and positioning themselves to take
advantage of new opportunities,
Acme soon found itself in the supply
side of the industry.
Today, Acme is still family owned and operated. Each of
Hub Richard’s sons played an important role in building
this small, customer service-oriented company into the
largest commercial door hardware distributor in Texas.The
name was changed to Acme Architectural Hardware to
better reflect how the company had evolved. But through
this evolution, Acme never lost sight of the many lessons
learned and passed down from its founders.The willingness
to work hard, provide the customers what they want, and
strive to exceed customers’ expectations has served the
company well for many years.
Acme Architectural Hardware continues to look for ways
to better serve their loyal customer base. As the security
industry grows, Acme is dedicated to helping its customers
