HEAT STRESS FACTS The body’s ability to cool itself down can easily become overwhelmed during extended exposer to hot and humid environments. This is a serious emergency situation that if not treated immediately can result in delirium, convulsions, coma or death. It is important to recognize and to treat the heat related illness to prevent heat stroke from developing. Prevention • Be extra careful when the temperature rises and during heat waves • Drink water every 15 minutes even if you don’t feel thirsty • Look out for each other • Rest in the shade for at least 5 minutes or as needed to cool down • Wear a hat and light colored clothing • Conduct regular training on the dangers of heat related illnesses and how to prevent and treat them.
