Predictive Maintenance (PdM) allows for the replace-
ment of parts only when necessary. Preventative
maintenance is time-based—replacing parts after a
delegated amount of use regardless of whether or not
the part has gone bad. PdM is the natural successor to
preventative maintenance, the practice of replacing
parts before the end of their life cycle.
