Herold & Mielenz, Inc. was founded in 1945 by William F. Mielenz. In the beginning, it was only a repair
shop in the basement of his home. Since then, Herold & Mielenz, Inc. has thrived as an industry leader
in Northern California. Family owned and operated for three generations! The members of the Mielenz
family are direct descendants of Thomas Davenport, the man credited with inventing the first commercially
successful electric motor in 1834. He also received the very first patent for an electric motor in 1837.
Operated by electromagnets, his motor was used to propel a small car around a circular track—the very first
recorded instance of an electric railroad.

We are one of only a few repair shops in Northern California that
automatically does VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) as standard
policy on every rewind we perform. Our rewinds are hand wound,
not mass produced. We use high-spike-resistant, inverter-duty wire,
Class H Nomex
®
insulation, and 100% polyester resin that is custom
blended exclusively for our shop’s VPI dip tanks.
We are an innovative electric motor and power transmission sales
and service center. We service electric motors, drives, gearboxes,
industrial pumps, controls, etc. All work is done right here in our fully
equipped shop. We also perform dynamic balancing on your rotating
machinery and equipment, as well as hardfacing and machine
work. All are done to extend the life of your electric motor. We have
customer service representatives in the field who will come directly
to you, wherever your need may be. We service a large section
of Northern California. As a well-rounded company, we also offer
telephone support and in-house counter sales for instant access
to our extensive inventory. We carry motors, gear boxes, VFDs,
bearings, pullies, belts, brushes, contactors, controllers and more.
If we don’t already have it in stock, we will find it for our customers.
