Welcome to Garden of the Gods Homes. We are
a family-owned and operated business founded
by Mike Woelke—our president.
Mike has been building homes since his father gave him his
first set of nail bags and hammer. When he finished high
school he worked that first summer until college started. He
knew then it was where he would end up. Mike recalls:
“My great grandfather came to the Pacific Northwest from
Germany as a master carpenter and built timber frame barns
all over Oregon. You can still see his barns standing today,
built to last hundreds of years. Having that kind of family
history in the trade makes you understand how important it is to build durable homes
with the best materials and workmanship that you can. Nothing is more sustainable
than a home that will be just as serviceable in a hundred years as it is the first day you
hand them the keys.
My sons, Michael Jr. and James both work with me, and my father Frank, now retired
from a long building career, loves to drive around the jobs and give us, what he
believes is, much needed advice.”
We have found a niche, preferring to accept clients that are looking to build very
personal homes and who are willing to invest the time it takes to get it just right.
This does not necessarily mean that all of our customers build expensive homes.
Many of our clients have a dream that comes with a modest budget. It takes a
much greater skill set to build a beautiful and well planned small home than to
build a large home and much more satisfying to help the client create it with us.
We consider the custom home to be one of the last truly hand-crafted
American products, and we build them like they were our own.
