Westbury National - page 8-9

In the dynamic world of live events,
Westbury National is a North American
leader in creating a spectacular show.
Managing more than 1,000 productions
every year, the Show Services division
operates with state-of-the-art equipment
and a razor-sharp focus on the
immediate results.
“In the show division, everything is
temporary,” Sandolowich says. “What our
customers are looking for is a show that
starts at eight o’clock with everything
working perfectly.”
The Show Services division caters to a
diverse group of clients that includes
show producers, event managers,
concert
promoters,
corporations,
theatres, religious, government and
civic organizations, schools, charity
fundraisers, fashion shows and retail
stores. Because of this varied mix of
clientele, the mix of services and products
Westbury offers has to be just as unique.
The company provides audio, lighting,
staging and video services for live events
of all types and sizes, all supported by
experienced account managers and
production teams.
Because of this experience, the team
is able to walk into a room or event
space and easily determine not only the
technical requirements but also how to
integrate the creative elements as well.
“It comes with experience. We look at a
space and pretty quickly come up with
what’s needed and base the creative
elements on budgets,” says Sandolowich.
“Sometimes clients have heavy creative
involvement; others leave it up to us.”
As one of Westbury’s many high-profile
projects, theannualMuchMusicAwards, is
a perfect example of the synergy the Show
Services division can create between the
technical and the spectacle. Well-known
for its unconventional venue–an outdoor
block party–the event requires a complex
audio setup capable of handling award
presentation and acceptance speeches
as well as full concert performances.
Westbury’s technical expertise enables
flawless execution of the award show and
helps to foster its casual street vibe and
festive atmosphere.
Complete, in-house integration of all of
Westbury’s show departments means
the division is instantly adaptable
to the demanding live event arena.
With decades of experience and a
fully equipped inventory, every show
Westbury supplies and supports runs like
a well-oiled machine. That means less
hassle, fewer cost overruns and an on-
time performance.
When tasked with engaging crowds at
a signature event, like Villa Charities’
Venetian Ball, the Westbury team has to
balance the client’s needs and desires with
a practical, budget-conscious approach.
The Venetian Ball was an expansive
project covering two locations and more
than 30,000 square feet. Challenged
to create a fundraising event that felt
like Carnevale in Venice, the installation
included lighting, animated projection
surfaces, full concert audio, staging and
a 30-foot-high blended video projection,
a full sensory feast for 2,400 attendees.
Westbury tackles large-scale outdoor
events, as well, including the Hillside
Festival, Luminato Festival of Arts and Nuit
Blanche. The events team even provided
sound reinforcement to 350,000 people
for Pope John Paul II’s 2002 Toronto visit.
Just like indoor shows, the experience in
the outdoor arena has to be spectacular
and interactive. Careful planning for
sound quality, weather protection,
security, site characteristics and visibility
are all part of Westbury’s process for
these events.
In addition to the full-service approach,
Westbury’s Show Services division offers
state-of-the-art equipment rentals for those
clients who do not require production
management or technical support.
