Wisconsin Building Supply came into existence on
October 30, 2009, but don’t think for a moment that we
are a start-up company with limited experience and
ability. To understand the skills and capabilities of today’s
WBS, we should look at our past. WBS traces its heritage
back to 1941 in Oconto, Wisconsin.
In 1941, Cantius Stock, along with Urban Scanlan, started
Scanlan and Stock Lumber Company. In 1971, his son, K.C.
Stock, bought the company and changed the name to
Stock Lumber Company. In 1980, K.C. expanded the
Oconto operations to Green Bay. Part of that original
expansion team in Green Bay was Bill Imig, our current
president and owner.
By 1998, Stock Lumber had grown to 12 retail lumber
yards in two states and had 744 employees. In that year,
K.C. Stock sold the company—along with the name—to
Carolina Holdings. They adopted the name Stock Building
Supply for all their retail lumber yards. The Wisconsin
locations continued to operate as one of the successful
divisions within the company. Bill Imig continued to rise
within the organization and by 2009 was Division
Manager for nine states.
In the summer of 2009, Bill Imig, along with L.T. Gibson, a
former V.P. of Stock Building Supply, formulated a plan to
purchase the Wisconsin locations from Stock Building
Supply. The resulting company was
US LBM, doing business as
Wisconsin Building Supply. What
this means for our customers is a
locally owned company that is well-
positioned to meet their needs. Our
industry-leading staff is well-versed
in the specific supplies, products,
and services needed by Wisconsin
builders, remodelers, and home-
owners. Although we may have a
new name, our long history is
Wisconsin through and through.
