Miami-Luken - page 6-7

From Humble Beginnings
Although Miami-Luken was founded in 1962, our roots can be traced all the way
back to 1875! The A. G. Luken Drug Company was established by Augustus G. Luken
through the purchase of a retail drug store owned by C. E. Potts.
Through the years the business made moves, as well as split into two operations—
Luken’s Incorporated (retail store) and The A. G. Luken Drug Company (wholesale
operation). In the 50s, the business installed a fleet of delivery trucks to better serve
their growing customer base, as well as an automatic billing system.
The A. G. Luken Drug Company served drug stores in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Dayton,
Fort Wayne, Anderson, Muncie, New Castle and Connersville and pharmacies in between.
Mr. Luken and his family members stated the success of the business was not so much
through their efforts but a result of faithful employees (numbering 38 at the time).
